Nice post, Jon. Some of this brings to mind points in this presentation from the Agile Roots conference I watched recently about leadership (http://bit.ly/4Bx0t6). I get the impression that "software architect" and "leader" are not as associated as they should be in enterprise software.

Wow, thanks for the link to that workshop, Mat. I watched about 10 minutes of it and will have to catch the rest later, but I can already tell she's going to go somewhere that jives with what I've been experiencing...

This post is very, very spot on. Recent experience really hammers it home for me in fact.

Howto, long term, avoid these anti-patterns is quite a trick.
